NASHVILLE — February 28, 2005 —  Richard Courtney of Fridrich & Clark Realty has been named 2004 Realtor of the Year by the Greater Nashville Association of Realtors, according to GNAR President Richard Exton.

The Realtor of the Year award is given annually to the GNAR Realtor member who has made the most significant contribution to the real estate profession and industry. The five immediate past Realtor of the Year recipients select the winner. Courtney was recognized for his achievements at GNAR’s annual Awards of Excellence banquet held on Saturday, Feb. 26.

“It is truly a pleasure to announce that Richard Courtney has been named GNAR’s Realtor of the Year,” said Exton. “There is no one who has worked harder in our affordable housing, legislative affairs and leadership efforts than Richard. He committed to be involved some time ago and has lived up to and exceeded our expectations for what any member would do. He has been more than generous with his leadership ability, time, and talent on behalf of the GNAR and we are thrilled to have him as a member of this association.”

Courtney is also active at the national and state levels of the Realtor Association. He serves as the National Association of Realtors Realtor Political Involvement Committee leader for the state of Tennessee. He serves as a Trustee for Tennessee Realtors Political Action Committee. He is the current Secretary/Treasurer for GNAR and has been or is currently on several GNAR committees, including Affordable Housing, Education, Membership, RPAC and Court of Arbitration.

Courtney has been in the real estate business for 26 years and holds the designations of Accredited Buyer Representative (ABR), Certified Residential Specialist (CRS) and Certified Real Estate Brokerage Manager. He is also the author of the popular real estate book Buyers are Liars and Sellers Are, Too. There were 226 GNAR members recognized with Awards of Excellence based on their achievements in sales volume, transactions and Association involvement criteria.
