U.S. Congressman Jim Cooper on hand to install new president

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Dec. 18, 2006) – Richard Courtney has been named president of the Greater Nashville Association of Realtors for 2007. Courtney, managing broker of the Fridrich & Clark Realty office on Music Row, was sworn in Friday, Dec. 15, along with other GNAR officers. His one-year term will begin on Jan. 1, 2007.
Officers serving with Courtney for 2007 include: Mandy Wachtler (The Pilkerton Company), President-Elect; Mike Nichols (Prudential Woodmont Realty Group), Secretary/Treasurer; Lucy Shivas Smith (Fridrich & Clark Realty), Vice President; Monte Turner (Turner & Associates Realty, Inc.), Vice President; and Christie Wilson (The Wilson Group), Past President.
During his 27-year career in real estate, Courtney has received many awards from GNAR, including the Platinum Lifetime Award of Excellence and Realtor of the Year (2004). In addition to his involvement with GNAR, he is an active member of the Board of Directors of both the National Association of Realtors and the Tennessee Association of Realtors. He also serves as NAR’s Realtor Political Involvement Committee leader for Tennessee and as Nashville U.S. Congressman Jim Cooper’s Federal District Coordinator for NAR. Congressman Cooper officially installed Courtney as the new GNAR President in Friday’s ceremony. Nashville Mayor Bill Purcell was also on hand. Courtney is also a celebrated real estate author with his currently popular book “Buyer’s Are Liars, and Sellers Are, Too!” (Simon & Schuster).
“Richard brings a great deal of leadership experience, market understanding and creative energy to our group,” 2006 GNAR President Christie Wilson said. “It is a pleasure to serve with him in the leadership of GNAR and it is an honor for me to pass the torch to my friend Richard.”
“I am truly humbled to be chosen to lead GNAR,” Courtney said. “The real estate industry in our region is thriving, as evidenced by our record-breaking home sales so far this year. Our association is also growing by leaps and bounds, giving us a stronger voice in the community and with lawmakers. It’s a great time to be a Realtor, and I look forward to what’s ahead for GNAR.”
GNAR members also elected new directors to rotating three-year terms from 2007 to 2009. Those elected include: Susan Dale (Prudential Woodmont Real Estate Services), Sharon Kipp (RE/Max Elite), and Alice Walker (The Wilson Group). Pam Smith (ERA Real Estate Professionals) will serve a one-year term on the GNAR board as part of her 2007 role as the President of GNAR’s Dickson Chapter.
Those continuing their service on the GNAR Board of Directors include: Richard Bryan (Fridrich & Clark Realty), Steve Condurelis (Keller Williams Realty), Kendra Cooke (Crye-Leike, Inc.), Brenda Freeman (Freeman Webb Company), and Anne Shockley (Trendex Company).

Members heard from Audrey Holcomb, a Habitat homeowner who benefited from the home GNAR members built in 2000 and has experienced some dramatic changes as a result of becoming a homeowner. Nashville Area Habitat for Humanity’s Executive Director Chris McCarthy also addressed GNAR members.
